The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, commonly known simply as “Section 8,” is a tenant-based rental subsidy program funded by the federal government and administered by local public housing authorities (PHAs). Effective Jan. 1, 2020, California law prohibits landlords from discriminating against tenants based simply on the fact that they receive a Section 8 voucher.
