As renters struggle to make timely payments to landlords during the COVID-19 crisis, rental property owners will find it difficult if not impossible to cover their property taxes on time.

That’s why the California Apartment Association has joined more than 50 other organizations in asking Gov. Newsom to partially suspend Revenue and Taxation Code sections 2618 and 4103.

Such a move would give taxpayers, including owners of rental housing, until July 15 to pay the second installment of their property taxes, which is now due April 10. Newsom has already granted such an extension for income tax filing and payment.
