California last week received $62 million in additional rent relief dollars from the federal government — a sizable sum but far less than requested.

The disbursement is the first of three rental assistance reallocations planned by the U.S. Treasury, with two more expected this spring. The dollars are being reallocated from states that didn’t spend their rental assistance funds quickly enough and had to refund the Treasury.
