COVID-19 Tenant relief Act Extension Questions

On July 28, 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 832. It took effect immediately. This law extends the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act (CTRA), California’s statewide eviction moratorium, through September 30, 2021, including the additional resident protections enacted by SB 91 earlier this year.  This law requires service of a new Informational Notice to residents with past due balances no later than July 31, 2021. Rental Assistance Payment Program Questions

SB 91 also established a rental assistance program. The application process for the State of California’s Rental Assistance Payment Program opened on March 15, 2021. Visit CAA’s Rental Assistance Program Page for more information.  AB 832, effective June 28, 2021, made revisions to the Rental Assistance Payment Program.  An overview is provided in this paper.

Helpline Services

The California Apartment Association’s Helpline service provides explanation of laws, regulations, court cases, and administrative policies affecting California landlords and tenants.

The Helpline service provides CAA Helpline Members access to CAA’s advisers who answer landlord-tenant-related questions in a timely fashion, usually in one business day.

Advisers are available to answer questions for our Helpline Members Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (PST)
