The California Apartment Association is offering a two-part webinar series designed to help independent rental housing providers navigate California’s complex legal environment.

The Landlord 101 series began Aug. 20, 2025, with the first webinar in the series, and will be followed by Part 2 on Sept. 17, 2025. Both sessions begin at 10 a.m. and are available live and on demand.

Whether attendees own one rental unit or four, Landlord 101 provides a high-level overview of the core topics every housing provider needs to know, along with references to the relevant CAA forms, Industry Insight papers, and in-depth webinars for those seeking further information. The webinars aim to provide a solid framework for understanding key issues and recognizing when additional guidance is needed.

Part 1, held Aug. 20, covers the following topics:

  • Application process and screening criteria
  • Fair housing concerns
  • Lease and rental agreement basics
  • Security deposits
  • Rent collection procedures

Part 2, scheduled for Sept. 17, addresses:

  • Landlord’s right of entry
  • Rent increases
  • Turnover and lease renewal
  • Termination of tenancy
  • Dealing with difficult situations during a tenancy

Participants may register for either session individually at a cost of $55 for CAA members or $95 for nonmembers. A discounted bundle is also available, allowing access to both webinars for $85 (members) or $115 (nonmembers).

Each session lasts approximately 1½ hours. Attendees who are current Certified California Rental Housing Providers (CCRM) can receive continuing education credit — one unit per session, or three units for the full series.
