Gov. Newsom this week signed into law legislation that will limit the use of wage garnishment in the collection of unpaid rent and other debts.
The California Apartment Association and its members opposed SB 1477 by state Sen. Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont. The law will limit the use of wage-garnishment against debtors in no need of protection, including tenants making over $200,000 who refused to pay their rent during the pandemic.
