A bill awaiting Gov. Newsom’s signature would create additional protections for victims of domestic violence who reside in rental housing.
The bill, SB 1017 by Sen. Susan Eggman, D-Stockton, reached the governor’s desk after passing both houses of the state Legislature on Aug. 26.
Eggman’s legislation builds on significant protections already in place for domestic violence survivors in rental housing. For example, landlords may not terminate a tenancy or fail to renew a tenancy based solely upon an act of domestic violence against a resident or a resident’s household member.
