The San Jose City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, approved an ordinance requiring the seismic retrofitting of certain older multifamily residential buildings to protect residents in the event of a major earthquake. The ordinance, set to take effect on April 1, 2025, incorporates several key recommendations from the California Apartment Association that provide crucial support to property owners.
