A group of rental property owners have sued the city of Oakland and Alameda County, alleging that the eviction moratoriums imposed by those governments infringe on property owners’ constitutional rights.

The Oakland and Alameda County moratoriums, which prohibit nearly all evictions, have been in place since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and are not set to expire until those governments end their local emergencies. The statewide eviction moratorium ended last year.
