At first glance, a new bill may appear to provide added protection for victims of domestic violence. Read further, and you will find that the bill gives unprecedented protection to perpetrators of abuse and violence in rental properties.
SB 1017 by Sen. Susan Eggman, D-Stockton, would make it more difficult and time consuming for landlords to get abusers out of rental units and to evict victims of domestic violence who invite their attackers back to the property, putting themselves and their neighbors at risk.
