The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday raised the annual apartment inspection fee by nearly 60% but agreed to review some cost-saving ideas from CAA that could render such a steep fee hike unnecessary.

The council also lowered the pass-through formula for the fee from 100% to 50% on rent-controlled properties.

A supplemental fee reflecting the rate increase is slated for later this year.
