The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday held an initial hearing on an ordinance that would require all habitable rental units to maintain indoor temperatures at or below 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

The proposal, intended to protect tenants from heat-related health risks, would apply regardless of a building’s age, HVAC infrastructure or utility capacity.
