The Los Angeles City Council is advancing an overreaching eviction moratorium for fire victims despite failing to provide data justifying the policy. This week, the council’s Housing and Homelessness Committee dismissed calls for a more targeted approach and instead pushed forward a measure reminiscent of failed COVID-era policies.

Thanks to the engagement of California Apartment Association members, the committee rejected an unnecessary rent freeze. However, the eviction moratorium still poses a significant threat to the rental housing industry, and further action is needed to stop it.
