The Los Angeles City Council voted again today, Jan. 10, to end the local COVID-19 state of emergency on Feb. 1, 2023, a move that would also bring the pandemic-related eviction moratorium to a close.

The conclusion of the pandemic-related eviction restrictions will trigger a one-year repayment period for rents deferred during the moratorium. The end of the emergency, in place since spring 2020, also begins a one-year countdown to terminate the city’s COVID-related freeze on rent increases come Feb. 1, 2024.
