Unlike emergency declarations from the governor’s office issued due to wildfires, severe storms and the COVID-19 pandemic, the newly announced statewide monkeypox emergency has not triggered the state’s anti-price-gouging law and has no impact on the ability of landlords to raise the rent.
Gov. Newsom’s emergency proclamation Monday expressly suspended the price-gouging restrictions automatically triggered under Penal Code section 396 whenever the governor declares an emergency.
