Continuing their journey through the state Legislature are a pair of CAA-sponsored bills that together would help landlords recover rent lost to the pandemic and clarify how rent restrictions apply during states of emergency.
On June 28, Sen. Bob Archuleta’s emergency-related bill, SB 1133, advanced from the Assembly Public Safety Committee on a 6-0 vote. The next day, the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee approved Sen. Melissa Hurtado’s COVID-19 rent-relief bill, SB 847, by a vote of 8-0.
Both bills have already won approval in the Senate and will be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee next month after lawmakers return from their summer recess.
