Ordinance would also bring eviction moratorium to every city within county
The California Apartment Association next week will unveil several mobilization resources for members to oppose an eviction moratorium and rent-freeze proposal that would apply everywhere in San Diego County, including within its cities.
The mobilization effort comes in advance of the Tuesday, May 4, Board of Supervisors meeting, where officials are scheduled to ratify the eviction ban and rent control measure on a second reading. The ordinance won preliminary approval earlier this month on a 3-2 vote.
Among other things, the ordinance in question would:
• Limit rent increases on most rental units to the rate of inflation.
• Prohibit most evictions.
• Effectively void previously served notices to vacate.
• Prohibit landlords from executing on writs of possession issued by courts.
In hopes of thwarting the ratification, CAA will provide San Diego rental housing providers with tools to testify at the meeting and communicate with elected officials. The association will also offer real-time SMS updates and calendar-critical dates if the item is rescheduled.
