A bill that originally would have forced landlords to translate an eviction complaint and summons into multiple languages has been amended to shift that responsibility to the courts, thanks to the advocacy work of the California Apartment Association.
AB 863, by Assemblyman Ash Kalra, D-San Jose, now requires the Judicial Council of California to produce a single, standardized summons form in English, Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Korean by Jan. 1, 2027.
