A bill mandating emergency telephones at public swimming pools – including those at apartment properties – has been withdrawn amid opposition from the California Apartment Association.
AB 2384 by Assemblywoman Wilson, D- Fairfield, proposed adding emergency phones uniquely designed for direct communication with emergency services at public pools. The legislation called for phones that are easily recognizable by their distinctive color, signage, and placement.
CAA raised concerns about the practical and financial impacts of AB 2384 on property owners. The association’s advocacy emphasized the need for legislation that balances safety with economic feasibility, arguing that the widespread availability of personal mobile devices diminishes the necessity for such fixed emergency installations.
Amid strong feedback from the CAA and other stakeholders, the bill was shelved for the year.
