Stockton City Council members will hold a town hall Monday, July 27, seeking comments from the public on a possible local rent control ordinance, a push first flagged by the California Apartment Association in May.

Councilmember Mario Enriquez and Vice Mayor Jason Lee have asked city staff to explore options for the city to go beyond the renter protections provided in California’s statewide rent cap law, AB 1482. CAA adamantly opposes any local ordinance to bring stricter rent control to the city.

Enriquez will host the town hall, dubbed the “Tenant Rights Town Hall,” with any resulting policy proposal expected to come before the council this fall. Enriquez has stated he’s hoping to hear from anyone who cares about housing in Stockton including homeowners and landlords.
