San Francisco Supervisors have raised the ire of state officials and some members of the media by rejecting a proposal to build nearly 500 apartments, a quarter of them designated as affordable units, on a Nordstrom parking lot near public transit.  

Among its reasons cited for rejecting the proposal? Worries over gentrification.
