In a major win for local rental housing providers, the Larkspur City Council has abandoned its attempt to implement a rent registry, following legal concerns raised by the California Apartment Association.

This spring, the city sent letters to property owners demanding compliance with a newly established rent registry. The letters claimed the registry was required under the city’s rent control ordinance and threatened enforcement action for noncompliance. Housing providers were directed to submit detailed data, including rent levels, occupancy dates, and rent histories.
