Thanks to a grassroots campaign spearheaded by CAA, the Los Angeles Housing Committee on Wednesday declined to advance an ordinance that would lower the city’s rent cap after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proposal would change the formula for calculating maximum allowable rent increases in rent-controlled buildings. For decades, the city has based its rent cap on the change in the consumer price index, with a floor of 3%.
