CAA Sacramento Valley welcomes experienced government affairs director
The California Apartment Association hired Mallori Spilker as its new government affairs director for the CAA Sacramento Valley division. She joins the public affairs staff in the Sacramento region led by Senior Vice President Jim Lofgren.
“Mallori brings highly desired skills and experience to the position,” Lofgren said. “With the threat of rent control looming in Sacramento, we are very fortunate to have someone of her caliber on our side.”
Before relocating to the Sacramento area, Spilker worked for two years in CAA’s North Bay division, establishing the government affairs and political action programs in Northern Marin and Sonoma counties.
While in the North Bay, Spilker developed relationships with local elected officials and advocated for the rental housing industry’s interests in various policy areas. Her achievements include crafting a rental inspection ordinance, increasing rental owner participation in the housing choice voucher program, and promoting voluntary measures to keep rents stable.
Additionally, Spilker successfully led a referendum effort and campaign against Santa Rosa’s rent control initiative, Measure C, defeating it on the ballot in June 2017.
“I’ve already worked on many of the issues now facing the industry in the Sacramento region, especially rent control,” Spilker said, “so I am ready to hit the ground running.”
Prior to CAA, Spilker worked for the California Association of REALTORS (C.A.R.) where she served as a government relations field representative. At C.A.R., Spilker was the liaison to 24 local REALTOR® associations in Northern California. She led PAC fundraising efforts, engaged members in C.A.R.’s grassroots lobbying efforts, coordinated campaign activities, and participated in a variety of state and local government affairs programs.
Spilker holds a B.A. in politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
