The California Apartment Association has released a new paper outlining the compliance information rental housing providers need to know about the eviction moratoriums enacted in Los Angeles County due to January’s wildfires.
In response to the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, and Kenneth fires, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors adopted two eviction measures:
- Non-payment eviction moratorium: Approved Feb. 25, 2025, this measure prohibits evictions for non-payment of rent through July 31, 2025, for tenants who meet specific financial hardship criteria and give timely notice of their inability to pay. The moratorium applies throughout Los Angeles County, including incorporated cities.
- Pets-and-guests moratorium: Approved Jan. 21, 2025, this measure applies only to unincorporated areas of the county and bars evictions based on unauthorized occupants or pets if they were displaced by the fires.
