A bill advancing through the state Legislature would prohibit evictions for tenants who miss rent due to delays in receiving Social Security checks—a proposal that has prompted concern among California landlords about prolonged gaps in rent collection.

The legislation, AB 246, passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee on April 29 and now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
