The Salinas City Council on Tuesday took the first of two votes to repeal the city’s rent control ordinance and three related policies enacted just six months ago.
The 5-2 vote marks a critical step toward eliminating local regulations that imposed rent caps, just cause eviction restrictions, a rental registry mandate, and a tenant harassment provision. A final vote is scheduled for June 3.
