Ignoring opposition from CAA and academic studies on the issue, the LA Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to create a program offering free legal representation to low-income renters facing eviction in unincorporated areas of the county.
Scheduled to start on Jan. 1, 2025, this initiative targets renters with household incomes at or below 80% of the area’s median income, with an initial funding of $24.5 million from federal pandemic relief funds. Future funding could come from a proposed sales tax increase for homelessness and housing programs.
