More than maintenance: All-Stars compete to install, repair and build

Rancho Santa Margarita – More than 200 people gathered at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club this month for the CAA South Coast Maintenance All-Stars contest.

On Thursday, Nov. 14,  88 competitors showed their skills in eight maintenance-related games, as their teams cheered from the sidelines.  For the second straight year, Camden won the Team Spirit Award.

Race Car Derby

The Race Car Derby, the last event of the day, allows competitors to show their creativity by using maintenance supplies to build a miniature car. In addition to the first and second place finishers listed above, Ut Khu of Camden was the People’s Choice winner for best car, and Jaime Bolt, also of Camden, won the award for the Best Use of Materials.

“The Maintenance All-Stars event is a one-of-a-kind event.  To watch the maintenance techs participate in the games, you see the pride they take in their work,” said Jennifer Giddens, education & events coordinator for CAA South Coast. “Although they may just be games, these guys care and are proud to serve their communities.

“Maintenance techs often go unnoticed, and this event is one where we can really show our appreciation for what they do.”
