The Milpitas City Council on Tuesday voted to impose an urgency ordinance that bans no-cause evictions until Jan. 1, when a state law with the same objective takes effect.  

The council’s move is intended as a stopgap measure leading up to the implementation of Assembly Bill 1482, California’s newly signed statewide rent cap and “just cause” eviction law.
