Los Angeles city residents may eventually vote on a proposed “vacancy tax,” but it won’t be this year.

After a letter-writing campaign spearheaded by the California Apartment Association, the City Council on Wednesday decided unanimously to wait until at least 2022 to place such a tax on the ballot. The tax would apply to owners of property that sits unoccupied for a specified amount of time.
