In March 2021, Governor Newsom signed SB 95 which ensures access to up to 80 hours of paid COVID-19 sick leave for eligible employees, including workers ordered to isolate themselves and those caring for family members ill with the virus. SB 95 extends COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave protections through Sept. 30, 2021. It is also retroactive to sick leave taken since the beginning of 2021. Small businesses employing 25 or fewer workers are exempt from the legislation.

This information is intended as a general overview of the COVID-19 paid sick leave requirement.
