The California Apartment Association this week issued a background paper to help its members comply with a new law requiring periodic inspections of certain apartment balconies, stairwells and other elevated structures.

On Monday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law SB 721 by Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo. The bill came in response to tragic balcony and stairwell collapses in two apartment buildings several years ago.
